Original Game Announcement

March 4, 2003

Since the first Newbie game is winding down (unfortunately, a lot of people ended up dropping out due to time constraints), I'm collecting player info for the next incarnation.

All interested parties email me with country and rep names.

The intent and purpose of the game is to give newer/less experienced players a chance to learn the basics and intricacies of the game. Veteran players are welcome as well, but remember that most of the players will be new. I don't want to see a couple of veteran players dominate the game. The veteran players we had in this game were very good about avoiding that situation.

Here's a copy of the current version report. World size will depend on number of players. I will also be reducing the tech level for bridge towers and fiddling with the tradeship values over this last game. Updates will be every 24 hours for the first week or so, then moved to a longer revolving time schedule (we did 40 hours last game, but I may make it a bit longer) after that. Gives people time to look up the
commands and so on.

Game Summary

Results for Newbie II: The Pax/Armengar alliance declared victory and
was uncontested. The game was rather well played all around. Those who
were beat upon fought back well, and several attackers complimented
their opponents for great defense.

Awards

Some game info (I lost the wire log, so I don't have the annos--
sorry. Pax gets the award for best anno in the game after a joking
reference about the Hokey Pokey set some of his pirates against each
other over whether the Great God POGO decreed whether the left or the
right foot should be put in first. No substantive award in-game, but
major cool points to Pax.)

Cool points are also awarded to Shire-- who despite being the newest
newbie of the game (and starting a couple updates later than everyone
else), still managed to hold off a determined attack against him for
some time.

Lame points awarded to Irons for logging into the game and
disappearing after about 2 weeks. (for the second game in a row) ;)

Kudos to Greatland (listed as People's on the power chart), who's
plans all went awry when his ally dropped out of the game
prematurely-- he didn't get very far in-game, but managed to hold his
own despite the setback.

Lastly, poor PeckMoth gets the honor of stumping me for a while as to
how he vanished completely from the power chart. Seems that if you
have no assets and a negative cash value, you have a negative score
and don't show up on the power chart anymore.
